How Does the Bay Area Practice Green Living?

The Bay Area is one of the top tourist spots in the country and is by far one of the most beautiful places to live. Whether you’re interested in it for the way it looks, or you’ve always wanted to lead a green lifestyle, there’s a lot to see and do while in the bay area!

These are the top things this part of the country does to be a little more green.

Understanding Businesses Make the Biggest Difference

The most important part of being more green is understanding that businesses make the largest portion of ecosystem damage.

This is vital to know before you can lay out any plan for a greener city.

Thankfully, the Bay Area understands that, and many of its companies are making changes to be greener as they grow.

For example, over a thousand of local hotels are rated as eco-friendly, and there’s a large amount of social pressure on ensuring that buildings are created in an eco-friendly manner.

Over 75% of Municipal Waste is Recycled.

If you’re looking at Oakland houses for sale and want to make sure you’re making the right choice: it’s good to know that most of what’s thrown away doesn’t end up in a landfill.

As of 2021, 77% of municipal waste is recycled.

This record-breaking number is far higher than any other portion of the country, and it comes with a push to continue to grow and do better.

Although there’s no city on Earth that’s completely free of waste, watching the Bay Area get so close is definitely inspiring.

A Push In Changes for Driving

Commuting is a big issue that causes carbon emissions and leaks oil, gasoline, and other problems into the soil and water.

Because of this, the Bay Area puts a heavy push on people to ride public transit instead of driving alone to and from work every day.

Not only is public transit far more affordable, but it’s also timely and readily available.

If you can’t wait for a bus, there are city scooters and bikes all over San Francisco that allow you to rent them until you get to work and then leave them somewhere for someone else to use.

Air Quality Has Improved By Incredible Amounts in 20 Years

This area of the country used to be known for its dense amounts of smog and saw huge increases in asthma and COPD in the 90s and early 2000s due to it: but they’ve turned their act around.

A lot of work has been done to improve the air quality, and although it still has its rough days when there’s murkier air than there should be, it’s still far better than it ever was before.

The Bay Area Still Has a Ways to Go

Although the Bay Area is still one of the greenest places in the country, it still has a long way to go before it’s perfect. With large human rights issues like homelessness and a littering problem many who live here deal with: this city still has some growing to do.
