Disabling Pi-Hole (or a different network-wide adblocker)<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As it turns out the\u00a0error code 0xc1900223<\/strong>error error code that occurs during the installation of an update to Windows 10 update can also be caused by Pi-Hole, or an equivalent network-wide adblocker.<\/span>\u00a0According to other users who have experienced the issue the issue could be caused by an DNS blocklist which may cause the update to stop from being completed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Users who have encountered the same situation have reported that they were able to update the software without experiencing the similar error by deactivating or deinstalling Pi-Hole when the update is in process.<\/span><\/p>\n

Disabling Pi-Hole Temporarily<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Use the\u00a0Windows keys and R<\/strong>\u00a0to display the\u00a0RUN<\/strong>\u00a0dialogue box.<\/span>\u00a0After that you’ll need to type\u00a0“cmd”<\/strong>\u00a0in the search box and then hit\u00a0Ctrl and Shift plus Enter<\/strong>\u00a0to show the elevated CMD prompt that has admin access.<\/span>\u00a0If you’re prompt to do so by\u00a0UAC (User Account Control),<\/strong>\u00a0click\u00a0Yes<\/strong>\u00a0to give administrative access.<\/span>\u00a0Running the Command Prompt<\/span><\/p>\n

• Once you’re in your elevated CMD prompt then type the following command to launch the Pi-Hole utility<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

  • After Pi-Hole has been activated after Pi-Hole has been activated, type in the following command and then press\u00a0Enter<\/strong>\u00a0to deactivate it:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    After the Pi-Hole adblocker software is disabled, try installing an update which failed once more and see whether you are able to install it without obtaining\u00a0<\/span>error code 0xc1900223.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    • If the update was successfully installed, you can run this command inside that same terminal elevated to turn on Pi-Hole once more:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • You can open the\u00a0Start<\/strong>\u00a0dialogue box using\u00a0Windows keys + R<\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0After that you need to type\u00a0“cmd”<\/strong>\u00a0into the text box, and then click\u00a0Ctrl > Shift + Enter<\/strong>\u00a0to show the elevated CMD prompt.<\/span>\u00a0When you see the\u00a0UAC (User Account Control)<\/strong>\u00a0prompt you must click\u00a0“Yes”<\/strong>\u00a0to give administrative rights.<\/span>\u00a0Enter “cmd” into the Run dialog.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • In this elevated CMD prompt type in the following commands and then press\u00a0Enter<\/strong>\u00a0for the purpose of launching the removal of Pi-Hole<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        pihole uninstall<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

        • After the command has been successfully processed, you can restart your computer.<\/span><\/li>\n
        • When the next update is released try to install the update which was not working with the\u00a0error code 0xc1900223<\/strong>error and check whether the process is completed.<\/span><\/li>\n
        • If this approach wasn’t suitable or didn’t resolve the issue, go to the next solution below.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Change your DNS resolver<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n

          Blocking DNS servers like Pi-Hole may cause error 0xc1900223 or similar.<\/span>\u00a0It is necessary to temporarily disable Pi-Hole for the purpose of installing Windows updates.<\/span><\/p>\n

          • If you have used Pi-Hole at its router, then you’ll be required to switch back to the default DNS or one of the DNS free server (temporarily):<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            • Clear your Windows DNS cache by running the ipconfig\/flushdns commands within the Command window.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              Be aware that this method will not aid if you’ve got the driver or software that is installed in your computer that’s unsuitable for the version that you’re planning to download.<\/span>\u00a0If an update you’re trying to install isn’t compatible with your configuration The following message will appear at your Windows Update settings page:<\/span><\/p>\n

                This should allow you to update to your Windows 10 installation without causing error code 0xc1900223.<\/span><\/p>\n

                If the cumulative update (instead of updating features) is causing error code 0xc1900223 it is possible to download the cumulative upgrade locally from the Windows Update directory.<\/span><\/p>\n
