CBD Oil vs. Tincture: What is the Difference?

Cannabis users are usually confused between CBD oil and tincture because of their similar appearance.

However, several aspects make them unique from each other including their different manufacturing processes and benefits.

This article will focus on CBD tincture vs oil so that you know what you are getting when buying CBD products.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD Oil vs. Tincture: What is the Difference?

CBD oil results from an extraction procedure that draws out the oil from the seeds, flowers, and stems of the hemp or cannabis plant. While CBD comes from the cannabis plant, it doesn’t create a high effect or toxification commonly experienced in THC.

CBD also contains fatty acids, protein, essential vitamins, and nutrients. CBD oil is quite potent and can be a great addition to your daily routine.

Studies show that CBD plays an important role in relieving symptoms of many health conditions such as pain.

Plus, CBD oil positively impacts the endocannabinoid system and helps main hemostasis.

What is a CBD Tincture?

What is a CBD Tincture?

A tincture is a plant extract dissolved in alcohol or other solvents such as vinegar and glycerin.

While originating from the hemp plant, CBD tinctures are different from CBD oil.

Manufacturing CBD Tincture involves Saturating the Hemp Plant Material in Alcohol.

Manufacturers also gently heat the mixture to enable CBD and other compounds to infuse into the alcohol.

The plant matter is then pulled and the whole solution bottled.

These factors affect the final CBD price, but you can also shop for CBD products at discounts.

Difference Between Tincture and Oil

Difference Between Tincture and Oil

  • Base

CBD oil contains cannabidiol as an oil carrier/base while CBD tincture has an alcohol base. Notwithstanding their base, both products offer similar therapeutic properties.

  • Ingestion Method

CBD oil has several ways of consumption including vape pens, or topicals. Tinctures, on the other hand, can only be consumed sublingually or mixed with food.

  • Taste

CBD oil has a tangy taste when ingested. Tinctures on the other hand come in different flavors including chocolate, peach, vanilla, and more.

  • Bioavailability

Tinctures also have higher bioavailability when compared to CBD oil. They have quick onset effects and are good on the go.

  • Shelf Life

Tinctures have an extended shelf life than CBD oil. This is because tinctures contain ethyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol, which works like a preservative. While CBD oil doesn’t stay for long, you can extend its shelf life by keeping it away from direct sunlight.

Is CBD Tincture the Same as CBD Oil?

CBD oil or tincture are often packaged in matching dropper bottles, making it even more difficult to distinguish them.

While both have similar effects, tinctures have a quicker onset effect than CBD oil.

They also have the same ways of application– sublingually, using a dropper.

Simply place 2 or 3 drops beneath the tongue and allow for 60 seconds before swallowing.

Both CBD tincture and oil can also be infused into food and drinks.

Bottom Line

CBD for sale can be in the form of oil, tincture, topicals, capsules, and more. Knowing the differences between the different types of CBD can help consumers buy the CBD product that they need.
