5G will provide better speeds and coverage than the current 4G. 5G operates with a 5Ghz signal and is set to offer speeds of up to 1 Gb/s for tens of connections or tens of Mb/s for tens of thousands of connections. Huawei, a major player in the Chinese mobile market, believes 5G will provide speeds 100x faster than 4G LTE offers. 5G also increases network expandability up to hundreds of thousands of connections.

The signal technology of 5G has also been improved for greater coverage as well as spectral and signaling efficiency. These improvements stand to further enable changes like pervasive computing and the Internet of Things

5G Wireless Technology details and information about the wireless technology being developed for 5th generation or 5G mobile wireless or cellular telecommunications systems. Among its key features are:

  • Pervasive networks – The user can simultaneously be connected to several wireless access technologies and seamlessly move between them. These can be 2.5G, 3G, 4G or 5G networks, Wi-Fi, WPAN or any other contemporaryaccess technology. Multiple, concurrent data transfer paths can be easily handled.
  • Group cooperative – High bit rates are now available in a larger portion of the cell, especially to users in an exposed location in between several base stations. This is achieved by cellular repeaters, together with macro-diversity techniques (also known as group cooperative relay), as well as beam-division multiple access.

  • IPv6 – where a visiting care-of mobile IP address is assigned according to location and connected network.
  • One unified global standard – With full compatibility, no matter what brand or model.
  • High-altitude stratospheric platform station (HAPS) systems, – Delivering high-speed Internet service to very large geographical areas.
  • Wearable devices with AI capabilities – Offering greater levels of user interaction and personalisation.
  • Smart antennas: Another major element of any 5G cellular system will be that of smart antennas. Using these it will be possible to alter the beam direction to enable more direct communications and limit interference and increase overall cell capacity.
